A perfect tour for the active visitor! The Angkor Archaeological Park is a largely shaded forested area, so if you wish to combine your temple sightseeing with a healthy dose of walking, this tour is for you! You will be dropped off  at the Victory Gate in Angkor Thom and start your walk on the 8m high laterite wall to the East Gate (Death Gate). This short section of the wall has a clear worn path which is used by local traffic, occasionally you may meet people collecting wood and going on about their daily business.

Through breaks in the forest canopy, you will be able to glance at the Angkor Thom moat below and on the other side the slope into the dense jungle. Back on level ground you will pass Prasat Pram Pi Lveng and continue to the Khleang temple group and the Preah Pithu Group. Although in plain sight and passed by many, these temples are rarely explored and thus well worth a short stop. You are almost guaranteed to have them to yourself!

In this area you will break for lunch and much needed rest in the hottest part of the day.

Commencing again around 14:00 you will pass the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King before diverting into shade again and visiting the picturesque Preah Palilay and the Royal Compound. Entering Baphuon from the west entrance will reward your trekking efforts by revealing the giant reclining Buddha – see if you can spot it without the help of your guide! Finally, the mesmerising temple of Bayon will be the cherry on your touring cake. Silent witnesses of time, the 216 enigmatic faces gaze over the horizon and one can only wonder what they have seen throughout the ages. From here you will be picked up and taken back to the hotel by road. A relaxing massage will be well deserved!
